In detail

In the heart of the Montes de Anaga Biosphere Reserve is a ravine full of laurel forest, formerly known as the “Río de Anaga”. Still, if we pay sensitive attention, we can hear its historical flow riding through the lands of its mountain.

Perhaps its waters do not continue to flow as before, but an essential activity that took place in this paradigmatic environment still survives. This is the linen textile work, carried out for years by the women of Los Batanes and which gives its name to the whole area – the Cueva del Lino (Linen Cave).

We will be able to get to know it through the exercises of recovery and preservation of its historical memory, where the neighborhood association of the area plays a transcendental role, as well as the modern continuation of these traditional techniques in new rural women. To do so, we will meet the work of Marisol from Slow Loom, an artisan who works with traditional wooden flax looms to promote their preservation and protect them from oblivion (visit the workshop is an extra).

However, the wonders of the Batán do not stop here. His rural involvement involves many and diverse works with the land, such as the vineyards and the production of local wine. To do so, we will learn about the work of Ana, winemaker of the winery of the 500 steps, the hand that will introduce us to the wonders of these lands steeped in green, history and future.

WITHOUT THEM, THERE IS NO LINEN AND NO HISTORY
