Fuerteventura rural tourism in the Canary Islands

The island of Fuerteventura is part of the province of Las Palmas, along with Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and La Graciosa. And it shares our archipelago and, therefore, its flora, fauna, culture, etc.

After Tenerife, it is the second largest in the Canary Islands, and together with Lanzarote, the most arid. Even so, it is a spectacular territory to get to know the beauty it holds.

Its endless beaches of fine sand show us the difference between islands. Its yellowish, reddish and whitish tones contrast with its oasis of vegetation.

Keeping away from mass tourism, it is still home to some endangered bird species, such as the Egyptian vulture, or less common, such as the hoopoe.

Its ancient capital, Betancuria, takes us back 600 years, without losing the authenticity of visiting one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

Fuerteventura is not only “strong winds” as its name seems to indicate, it is also friendly people, unique landscapes, sun, sand and sea to enjoy.

Majorera gastronomy (adjective to designate its population) accompanies the visit, through the food offered by the pre-Hispanic goats: goat meat and cheese in its variety (fresh, semi, cured, with gofio, paprika, with herbs …). No less singular are its wines and oils, which, although more recent, are highly appreciated.

Mills dot the land, some still standing the test of time, as faithful companions of history and authenticity.

If you want a unique stay, don’t think twice. And through this link, you can book some rural houses in Agroturismo La Gayría. Canarian architecture, fused with functionality, where silence and peace dominate the place.

The people are friendly, and families can enjoy meeting and interacting with the local wildlife. There you will find donkeys, as well as goats, sheep, ducks, geese and some other birds. Tell Doramas that Ruth has sent you there, and before you leave, you must taste oil and its liquors.

Fuerteventura is and will be a small corner of authenticity within our islands.

Which of our Experiences/activities would you like us to bring to Fuerteventura?
